Yield

Yield is either:

  1. The percentage of a process that is defect-free, or
  2. The percentage of met commitments (defect-free events) divided by total number of opportunities.

First Time Yield

First Time Yield (FTY) of a process is the number of outputs divided by the number of equivalent inputs. For example if the materials for ten boxes are input into a process but it only produces 8 (wasting the the materials through error or bad design) then the FTY is 0.8.

The FTY for a sequence of processes is the product of the FTYs of each process in the chain.

FTY is also known as Pass Yield.

Rolled Through Yield

Rolled Through Yield (RTY) is the probability that a single unit can pass through a set of connected processes without experiencing any defects.
