Effectiveness

Effectiveness is a measure of the extent to which the outputs of a process meet requirements, either in terms of conformance to a written specification or more broadly satisfying customer needs.

In terms of 'who it's for', the main beneficiary are customers. Employees benefit from sustained employment whilst shareholders may gain from repeat sales and references that lead to further sales.

Typical Effectiveness measures include:

  • Operational compliance (following regulations, process design)
  • Output conformance (meeting named quality criteria)
  • Satisfaction and referrals (customer satisfaction with outputs)
  • Complaints and warranty claims (customer dissatisfaction outputs)

Effectiveness often is paired with Efficiency as overall key measures of process performance.
