Cost of QualityThere is a cost to implementing quality control, assurance and improvement activities, although this should be significantly less than the cost of non-quality, particularly over the longer term. Appraisal costAppraisal cost is the cost of setting up and running a system to assess for whether quality is being achieved or not. This include testing, inspection, inspectors, test equipment, audits and related education. Prevention costThis is the cost of setting up and running a system to prevent defects from ever occurring (or at least not reaching customers). This includes the cost of training, equipment and appraisal as well as the time taken. It also includes the cost of running improvement projects, redesign and other activities targeted at efficiency, effectiveness and general quality assurance. See also:
