Champion

A champion is a person in a situation of change, such as in DMAIC or DMADV projects, who provides support to help ensure the change works in practice.

Change efforts critically need a champion at senior levels (an executive champion) who will unblock resources and address resistance to change at higher levels and in parts of the organisation in which the change manager does not have authority or influence.

There is also a need for champions at grass-roots level (local champions). Such a person learns about the change and provides a local point of contact for further information. They also act as enthusiasts and social leaders, becoming hands-on cheerleaders amongst their peers.
